Lawrence Ritchie
Vice Chair, Ontario Securities Commission
Lawrence Ritchie was appointed a Vice-Chair of the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) with his term commencing April, 2007. As a Vice-Chair, he participates in overseeing Commission operations, setting priorities and sponsoring policy initiatives. As a Commissioner, Mr. Ritchie serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the OSC. He is also member of the Commission’s Adjudicative Committee, which is responsible for the review and establishment of adjudicative policy, process and procedure, and is a member of adjudicative panels that hear and decide enforcement proceedings, regulatory policy matters and appeals of certain decisions.
Prior to his appointment to the Commission, Mr. Ritchie was a Partner in Osler Hoskin & Harcourt’s Litigation Department and was also cross-appointed to the firm’s Pensions & Benefits Department. While at Osler Hoskin, his practice involved providing advice and acting as a counsel in a range of corporate governance, securities, pensions and general corporate and commercial litigation, regulatory investigations and proceedings, and related matters. Mr. Ritchie also acted for defendants in numerous class actions and private securities disputes and proceedings, and has experience in pension-related dispute matters and alternative dispute resolution proceedings. Mr. Ritchie has been recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada and Lexpert.
Mr. Ritchie was educated at the University of Western Ontario (BA), Osgoode Hall Law School (LLB) and the London School of Economics (LLM). He was called to the Ontario bar in 1989.
